Company History

The Water Shop was established over 30 years ago by Vince Russell, one of the founding fathers of the health food industry in Australia. Vince received numerous awards for his innovations before the ‘Russell’s’ chain of 7 successful stores was later purchased by Blackmores Vitamins.

When the media started reporting on the contaminants and pollutants in our drinking water and with the addition of sodium fluoride, Vince became aware of the growing demand for water purification products. In response to this need he designed and commercialised Australia’s first home drinking water system in the 1970’s.

Recognising the emerging market and the need for high quality purification technologies The Water Shop was founded in the 1980’s and has evolved into one of Australia’s largest independent water filtration importer/exporter wholesaler and retailer.

Every year we attend at least two of the world’s largest water purifications trade fairs and conventions, keeping abreast of the latest filtration technologies and products available from around the world. When the water flow from the system noticeably reduces, it may be due for a service or the cartridge may simply need to be cleaned and scrubbed. For an average family household, the rule of thumb is to service your filter approximately once a year.

To allow peace of mind, we offer a complimentary service reminder (letter or email), to advise you of when your system is due for scheduled maintenance. Please feel free to call our friendly customer service team for any further assistance 02 9458 1111.

If normal use of your filter is interrupted by a holiday or vacation, growth of a harmless heterotrophic bacteria may result in a ‘flat; or ‘stale’ taste for a period of time when the use of your filter resumes. The solution is to flush the filter system for several minutes after any prolonged period of inactivity.

It is also recommended to shut off the water supply to the filter system before your departure for an extended period.

The carbon media inside most water filter cartridges is only manufactured to last 12 months. After this period the effectiveness and efficiency of your filter system will be significantly reduced.

In addition to this – in most systems – your water filter cartridge(s) holds all the chemicals, heavy metals and bacteria etc. that has been removed from your water over the last 12 months; using the cartridge past this due date can cause bacteria to re-contaminate the cartridge and therefore be reintroduced into your drinking water.

Hence we highly recommend replacing or maintaining your filter cartridge at the suggested time of doing so.

Fluoride slowly destroys the body’s self-repair and rejuvenation capabilities – depressing the immune system and subsequently causing a range of ill-health effects. Excessive exposure to fluoride is unnecessary and best avoided.

Yes. Even though you may not tell the difference between different ‘brands’ – there can be a substantial contrast in price and quality. Remember the saying, “you get what you paid for”.

In most – if not all – cases, cheap filters are Asian made, lacking in any certified testing or quality.

At The Water Shop, we pride ourselves in selling certified and fully tested products that meet or surpass the AS/NZS/IS9002 and Australian Plumbing Standard MP52. All our systems our handbuilt and wet tested here in Australia prior to sale. In support of this, all our products are supported with a 5 Year Warranty against manufacturing workmanship defects.

There is no means to selectively remove only the harmful contaminants from your water supply. Since health threats from these are much greater than the nutritional value of ‘good things’ in water, it is still highly recommended to filter your drinking water supply. Reassuringly, did you know you receive 99.99% of nutrition from your food, not from your drinking water?
